1. POLICY STATEMENT

2. PURPOSE

The purpose of this policy is to:

3. SCOPE

This policy applies to:

  • All students
  • Teachers and school staff
  • School leadership (Principal, Vice Principal)
  • Volunteers, visitors, and contractors

4. DEFINITIONS OF ABUSE

  • Physical Abuse: Causing physical harm or injury
  • Emotional Abuse: Verbal abuse, humiliation, or psychological harm
  • Sexual Abuse: Any inappropriate sexual behavior or exploitation
  • Neglect: Failure to meet a child’s basic needs (food, safety, care)

5. ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

School Leadership
  • Ensure policy implementation
  • Appoint a Child Protection Officer (CPO)
  • Provide staff training
Teachers & Staff
  • Maintain a safe classroom environment
  • Identify and report concerns immediately
  • Respect confidentiality
Child Protection Officer (CPO)
  • Receive and record concerns
  • Take appropriate action
  • Liaise with authorities if required

6. REPORTING PROCEDURES

  • Any suspicion or disclosure must be reported to the CPO immediately
  • Maintain written records of concerns
  • Do not investigate independently
  • Ensure confidentiality and child safety at all times

7. SAFEGUARDING PRACTICES

  • Safe recruitment and background checks
  • Supervision of students at all times
  • Safe use of technology and internet
  • Clear code of conduct for staff and students

8. ONLINE SAFETY (E-SAFETY)

  • Educate students on safe internet use
  • Monitor digital platforms used in school
  • Prevent cyberbullying and misuse of technology

9. PARTNERSHIP WITH PARENTS

  • Engage parents in child safety awareness
  • Communicate concerns appropriately
  • Promote a safe home and school environment

10. TRAINING & AWARENESS

  • Regular safeguarding training for staff
  • Student awareness sessions on safety and rights
  • Workshops for parents

11. CONFIDENTIALITY

All information related to child protection concerns will be kept confidential and shared only with authorized personnel.

12. POLICY REVIEW

This policy will be reviewed annually or as required to ensure effectiveness and compliance with current safeguarding standards.
